Following the recent news that we won an award at the Toast of Surrey Business Awards, I’m pleased to share with our readers some further good news! We’ve been shortlisted at the annual Recruiter Awards for Excellence 2011.
The awards bring together both agencies and in house recruitment teams and celebrates the best achievers over the last 12 months. We’ve been shortlisted in no less than three categories this year: ‘Best Small Recruitment Agency to Work For’, ‘Best Client Service’ and ‘Best Engineering Recruitment Agency’.
I’m delighted to be shortlisted in these great categories, we work very hard to be an employer of choice, and provide the best level of service to our clients so to be recognised for this is a great achievement in itself. Whilst we are eager to win these awards to add to our ever expanding trophy cabinet, we are up against some tough competition so we know it won’t be an easy task! (more…)

I am delighted to announce that we have won the ‘Best Recruitment Company to Work for £40-£100M’ category at this year’s Recruitment International awards! Another award to add to our ever growing collection!
I am absolutely ecstatic to have won this award, especially as our staff played a part in us winning! I believe we won the category through a mixture of the exceptionally high employee survey results – 92% overall satisfaction rating, the high regard from clients – 72% of them rated the agency better than the competition, plus the stimulating opportunities we offer staff that keeps them happy, dedicated and inspired in their roles. Offering individuals a stimulating career and not just a job is what’s important to us.

A recent CIPD survey has stated that the jobs market will stall as the demand for public sector jobs falls with 36% of them looking to lose staff. Posted on the BBC news website this all looks like doom and gloom and unfortunately when someone is being made redundant their radar for negative stories like this is on high alert.
So its times like these that we need some good news to instil confidence back into our job seekers.
For us here working in the private sector we are finding lots of reasons to be positive as we have some excellent roles available. Part of the reason for this is that we work across a range of robust sectors such as defence & aerospace, pharmaceutical, aviation, nuclear, rail and building services and have found that they have (and continue to be) reasonably stable.
So in the vein of reassurance here are a couple of hot (if only the same could be said of the weather!) jobs… (more…)

Being on a preferred supplier list (PSL) is always a more secure way to do business with clients and we are constantly striving to strengthen our relationships in this way. Clients that have a preferred supplier agreement in place will use only those agencies on the list to fill their roles, so there’s a real benefit to us in doing this. Not only in protecting our business but also to get to know our clients better. Recently we’ve been working hard to sign up some of our best clients and are now pleased to announce that we’ve got the following clients on board:
- After a thorough procurement process CBSbutler has been selected to join QinetiQ’s first tier Preferred Supplier List for Permanent hires. QinetiQ is one of the world’s leading defence technology and security companies.
- CBSbutler has been selected as a 1st tier supplier to Emap, one of the fast growing business-to-business multiplatform media groups.
- CBSbutler became one of the most successful companies supplying Selex Communications on a permanent basis and so they decided to make us a 1st tier supplier for their contract hire too.
- The multi-million pound wireless test and measurement systems company Aeroflex have selected CBSbutler as 1 of only 3 companies to supply to them as 1st tier for both permanent and contract hire.
- HP – the biggest IT services provider in the world has made us a full approved supplier provider for both permanent and contract hires for HP -
As of course it’s not just about new customers, but also continuing to work with existing clients so we’re pleased that Boeing, one of the fastest growing defence companies in the UK, has renewed our 1st tier supply agreement for another year.
Not only is this good news for us, but also our candidates who will get access to some great vacancies that may not be advertised elsewhere or with other agencies.

We try and give our readers informative and useful information via our blog, but every now and then we have to blow our own trumpet a little. We’re very proud of the quality of service we deliver so if we can’t talk about it on our own blog, then where can we?!
Whilst flicking through the ‘book of the night’ that we managed to take home in one piece from the Recruiter awards last month, we read some of the judges comments about what made us an award winning agency, so we thought we’d share them with you.
- “Survival over the past year might be seen by some as an achievement; when a company has grown its turnover by around 10% and increased its pre-tax profits from £800k to £1.2m during these market conditions, the achievement is even more impressive. Yet this is just what CBSbutler has succeeded in doing – and against others in the same sector that experienced an average 20-35% drop in turnover.”
- Business performance was also improved through value added offerings to differentiate us from the competition and raise the bar in levels of customer service and we played a ‘big role’ in improving the recruitment industry’s reputation and raising standards.
- “The judges were particularly impressed with the scope of activities, such as participating in a Trade Leadership Forum to raise standards of leadership within the industry and promoting overseas trade, as well as the company’s work with schools to encourage young people to take an interest in science.”
- “The judges like the introduction of CBSbutler’s new performance model, giving equal weighting to behaviour and achievements of its own consultants, rather than based on the previous financially driven incentive.”
- Customer service survey gave us 98% very satisfied rating, with 90% rating us more effective than our competition
So there you have it – just some of what makes us proud owners of two Recruiter awards. It’s always nice to see that our hard work and effort is recognised and rewarded!
Logistical problems of volcanic proportions 26/04/2010

Well things are finally getting back to normal now British airspace is open again! Here at CBSbutler, there were a lot of logistical nightmares for both our contractors trying to start their work, but also for our candidates trying to make their interviews.
One of our candidates who was in Germany on business couldn’t get back for a face-to-face interview with one of our defence clients, so we arranged a telephone interview instead. They liked him and now he’s back on UK soil we’ve been able to re-schedule the interview, so all’s well that ends well. But its not just candidates that had problems; a couple of our clients weren’t able to run their interviews, and because of this we’ve had to push back about 6 interviews to this week.
Keeping in touch with our candidates is really important at times like this, just to let them know what’s happening and keeping them warm. On the plus side, good communication like this can strengthen the rapport we have with our candidates. (more…)

It was celebrations all round last night at the Recruiter Awards, where I’m delighted to announce that CBSbutler won not one, but two awards! In the words of one of our consultants, CBSbutler has literally wiped the floor in terms of recruitment awards this year!!
Despite phenomenal competition we are now the Best Technical Recruitment Agency and Recruitment Agency of the Year! Furthermore we were runners up and highly commended for Best Client Service and Best Recruitment Agency to work for too

It has been a busy week! Not only have we only had four days in the office, but at CBSbutler we’ve been inundated with roles for the new FRES project. This £4 billion programme of building a fleet of new armoured military vehicles for the British Army means a lot of personnel are needed. (more…)

Many of us have seen the mind-boggling interview questions that Google subjects its interviewees to, but Google isn’t the only company to use such techniques! Some of our clients are consultancies involved with the goverment and defence and due to the nature of their work they have high requirements for their new hires – A’s at A level, at least a 2:1 or above from a Red Brick University and a Masters or PhD if possible – and that’s just the beginning. After the typical CV run through you’d expect in an interview and a presentation from the candidate they turn to problem solving and some pretty complex maths. Think you could handle that?
