On Friday 28th October, staff at CBSbutler put on their pink glad rags to help raise awareness and money for Breast Cancer Campaign’s ‘Wear It Pink’ day.
The day was a fantastic success as we managed to raise an amazing £250 on the day + £235 on our just giving page! Our Managing Director, David Leyshon has also promised to double the final amount which is brilliant news! Throughout the day, staff were encouraged to dig deep and take part in a range of activities with pink bubbly flowing and pink cakes on offer. But the highlight of the day was the leg waxing of the male consultants!

Last year hundreds of thousands of people took part in Wear It Pink raising a staggering £2.5 million for breast cancer research and this year’s efforts look set to smash last year’s achievements.
It was a great day, and everyone really enjoyed themselves but there was serious side to the event as one in eight women experience this form of cancer in their lifetime. Every year, some 48,000 are diagnosed with breast cancer and wear it pink helps to fund vital research into the disease which affects so many.
Breast Cancer Campaign aims to beat breast cancer by funding innovative world-class research to understand how the cancer develops, leading to improved diagnosis, treatment, prevention and cure. Currently the charity supports 81 research projects, worth over £15.5 million, in 31 centres of excellence across the UK and Ireland.
There’s still time to donate, please visit CBSbutler’s charity page on their website and donate to the cause or visit www.breastcancercampaign.org for more information.
Let us know if you did something to support this great charity!

All staff will dress in pink and donate a minimum of £2 each to the cause. There will be a pink themed cake sale, pink champagne, and fines for those who haven’t gone the extra mile!

The International WorldSkills event is this year taking place in London on 5th-8th October 2011.
Held every two years, WorldSkills represents the excellence of vocational learning. Hundreds of young people from across the globe will gather to test their skills against international standards in a range of expertise including engineering and electronics, web design and fashion and health care.
The four day competition will see over 1000 competitors from 51 countries competing to be the best of the best in their field. Many top employers will be exhibiting and industry experts will be on hand to share insider knowledge and inspire young people who are interested in skilled careers.
One of the biggest categories at the event is the engineering and manufacturing section featuring challenges ranging from Polymechanics / Automation, Mechatronics, Electronics and Mobile Robotics.
The event, which is backed by London Major Boris Johnson, is a great first step in showcasing the benefits of a skilled career to young people. The event is designed to help young people find out more about the industries and provide them with the knowledge to become successful , fulfil their dreams and unlock their potential.
More UK businesses need to start working with schools to highlight the benefits of STEM subjects, at the all important stage in a child’s education – when they are deciding on their GCSE subjects.
We think it’s a great idea to actively encourage more young people into the industry as there is a lack of new talent in general through. Many people have an “outdated” view of the engineering and technology industry which needs to be tackled. Events like WorldSkills will help to encourage the younger generation into the industry and find just how fun a career in engineering can be.
Let us know what you think. Do you think the event will encourage more youngsters into the sector? What more do you think businesses should be doing to help?

It’s no secret that some large corporates have lost some of their branding power following big scandals. Nestle faced controversy over the marketing of its infant formula in 1977. This, along with several other high-profile humiliations led to consumer boycotts that are still active today.
When the News International phone hacking scandal hit the headlines, public outrage led to a huge dip in sales – and in shares. A good corporate reputation is hugely important to businesses, particularly where their customers are concerned. However, a new trend is emerging that indicates that it’s not just consumers, but prospective employees too that may steer clear of disgraced companies. (more…)

Six of our consultants from the Defence desk took part in the Asics British 10k London Run to raise money for Help for Heroes last weekend. They raised an impressive £4000 in total.
Help for Heroes is a fantastic charity that raises money for our many service men and women that have suffered serious injury whilst on active duty in Iraq and Afghanistan. We’ve been supporting them since 2009, with various members of the team taking part in numerous sponsored runs. (more…)

I am extremely proud to say that CBSbutler has saved the annual Festival of Science and Engineering! We have put forward the £10,000 needed by Surrey SATRO, the charity behind the Festival, to keep it alive.
In my eyes, the Festival is a major platform that is needed to promote STEM subjects to students in the Surrey area – to encourage and inspire them to study these subjects before eventually moving into a career within these fields. The Festival provides a brilliant opportunity for the scientists and engineers of tomorrow to show their peers and the local businesses just what they can do. (more…)

This month at CBSbutler it’s all about charity….something that is literally close to our hearts here.
On Sunday, one of our brave (or foolish depending on how you look at it) colleagues is going to take part in the gruelling 54 mile bike ride from London to Brighton in aid of the British Heart Foundation. He has been putting in the miles over the last few months and every night he’s in our on-site company gym preparing his ‘temple’ ready for the challenge. With £650 raised already he’s determined to see the challenge through, despite warnings about the daunting Ditchling Beacon!
Aside from his efforts, CBSbutler have also raised £2,500, in the last 6 months, for Rainbow Trust Children’s Charity who provide emotional and practical support to families who have a child with a life threatening or terminal illness. (more…)
